WHat is the PECKHAM people’s ASSEMBLy?
It’s whoever takes part. We book community spaces for local people to get together and discuss issues that concern them. Breaking out into smaller groups, we can have manageable discussions where everyone’s voice is heard. We want to identify common problems and work as a community to build informed, empowering solutions. Our trained facilitators help guide the conversation but it’s the whole assembly that draws up decisions and eventually policy. In the long term we will gain advice on specific topics from experts to give us the tools we need to make impactful group decisions.
As the assembly grows, it will become more representative of Peckham and it’s residents and we can train more facilitators and representatives, so that we have many public-facing members. Our parliamentary candidate is only answerable to the assembly and our representatives can and will change over time.
Also, don’t worry about time commitments - you can involved just whenever it suits you and about the issues that concern you the most!
